What is Pass Plus?
Pass Plus is a practical training course that takes at least 6 hours and is for drivers to improve their skills and drive more safely. It can be taken at any time although it should be most useful to new drivers in the year after passing their test.
You'll need a Pass Plus registered approved driving instructor (ADI) to teach you. The course covers six modules, each focusing on a different driving scenario that you may not have fully experienced while learning to drive.
There is no test at the end of Pass Plus — your instructor assesses you throughout the course. Once you reach the required standard in each module, you'll receive a Pass Plus certificate from the DVSA, which may help you get a car insurance discount.
Six modules, one confident driver
Each module builds on what you learned for your test, covering scenarios and conditions you may not have driven in before.
Town Driving
Learn to handle complex junctions, multi-lane roundabouts, bus lanes, trams and heavy urban traffic safely.
All-Weather Driving
Master driving in rain, sleet, snow, ice, bright sunshine and fog, including safe stopping distances and visibility.
Out of Town & Rural Roads
Tackle country lanes, farm entrances, sharp bends, slow-moving vehicles and the hazards of rural driving.
Night Driving
Build confidence driving after dark, including headlight glare, judging speed and distance, and parking at night.
Dual Carriageways
Safely join, overtake and exit high-speed dual carriageways with confident lane discipline and observation.
Motorways
Learn motorway driving skills, including smart motorway rules, lane discipline, breakdown procedures and safe speeds.
